ACADEMIC RESULTS

Although the school places great value upon an all-round education, it recognises that its core purpose is academic development. The recently published League Tables show Orford School to be in the top one-third of schools in Suffolk who particippated in the SATs examinations in Summer 2010.

2010 results in the Early Years Foundation Stage demonstrate a three year upward trend as measured by the percentage of pupils gaining 78, and the percentage gaining six points in CLL and PSE.

At Key Stage 1 results rose from 33% to 75%, from 17% to 62% and from 17% to 82% in reading, writing and mathematics respectively. Level 3 results in reading and mathematics also demonstrate a three year rising trend.

At Key Stage 2  75% of the pupils acheived Level 4 in both English and Maths, and the target this year is a very respectable 89%. Results in reading, writing and maths are all increasing year-on-year at Level 4 aned Level 5 (with maths results at Level 5 approximately double the Local Authority average)

We work very hard to supoort those children who struggle to make the expected level of progress. One-to-one tuition and booster groups are used extensively, as well as the use of teaching assistants in lessons.

Some quotes from the report:

There are strengths in the good care, guidance and support provided for pupils and the broad and exciting curriculum which contributes to pupils' enjoyment of learning. Pupils have an outstanding understanding of how to lead a healthy lifestyle. They gain excellent experience in growing vegetables and herbs and using them in creating a wide range of healthy dishes. Pupils are proud of their school, behave well and show respect to the adults who care for them and kindness to each other.

Pupils show confidence in the staff, who care for them and value the good care, guidance and support they receive. One pupil said 'I really like my school because we all care for each other and you know people will help you.'

Parents and carers are pleased with all that the school provides and the many recent signs of improvement. One parent, typical of many, wrote 'The school has made many improvements over the last year or so. I am particularly happy with the social aspect of the school. Children in different year groups play and interact happily.'

Spiritual, moral and social development are promoted well by the school so that pupils behave thoughtfully, have a clear understanding of how their actions and words can affect others and reflect on a range of significant values such as humility.
